At Real Estate Industry Solutions, LLC, we know you care about your personal privacy and about the terms and conditions that govern your use of REIS’ websites. Because we are dedicated to serving your needs and respecting your preferences, we have adopted the policies and practices described in this Privacy Policy.
This Privacy Policy covers REIS’ treatment of personal information that REIS gathers when you are on a REIS website and when you use REIS services.
This Privacy Policy does not apply to content you post or otherwise make available to other users or the public via the website. You acknowledge that your name and contact information may be displayed to other users when you post content. If you are a real estate professional, your REIS user ID number may also be displayed as part of the URL enabling consumers to go directly to your personal web page. Any content you submit to a REIS website may be widely redistributed through the Internet and other media channels.
This policy does not apply to the practices of third parties that REIS does not own or control or individuals that REIS does not employ or manage.
Because of the nature of our business, our services and benefits are not designed to appeal to minors. We do not knowingly attempt to solicit or receive any information from children.
Why We Collect Information
In general, we collect and use information about you for the purposes of:
- Providing our products and services to users, including displaying customized content and advertising;
- Auditing, research and analysis in order to maintain, protect and improve our services;
- Ensuring the technical functioning of our network; and
- Developing new services.
Information We Collect
We offer a number of services that do not require you to register for an account or provide any personal information to us, such as Find a Realtor®. For other services, we may collect the following types of information:
- Information you provide - When you sign up for a service account or REIS promotion that requires registration, we ask you for personal information (such as your name, email address and an account password). If you order a product or service from a REIS website, we request billing, shipping and credit card or other payment account information through a secure network. Credit card information is processed but not stored. We may combine the information you submit under your account with information from other REIS services or third parties in order to provide you with a better experience and to improve the quality of our services. For certain services, we may give you the opportunity to opt out of combining such information. In addition, when you send email or other communication to REIS, we may retain those communications in order to process your inquiries, respond to your requests and improve our services.
- Information provided by others - We may receive information about you from other sources, such as our clients, agents, vendors and service providers, and from publicly available sources. For example, if you are receiving REIS services as a benefit of belonging to a professional trade group or brokerage firm, your trade group or brokerage firm may provide us with information to verify your eligibility to receive the service. Similarly, if we provide a service in connection with another web site, that site operator may send us personal information you provide to them to enable us to deliver the service.
- Cookies and Web Beacons - Cookies are pieces of data that a website transfers to a user's hard drive for record-keeping purposes. Web beacons are transparent pixel images that are used in collecting information about website usage, email response and tracking.
When you visit a REIS website, we send one or more cookies to your computer that uniquely identifies your browser. We use cookies to improve the quality of our service by storing user preferences (e.g. user ID and password prompts and wish list registration) and tracking user trends, such as how many times a particular property listing has been viewed. REIS may also use cookies and web beacons in association with emails it sends to you and to track visits to affiliate websites. These cookies and web beacons may be associated with personal information (such as your email address), but we do not correlate clickstream data with personal information. REIS websites capture limited information (user-agent, last URL requested by the user, client-side and server-side clickstream) about website visits; we may use this information to analyze general traffic patterns and to perform routine system maintenance.
Most browsers are initially set up to accept cookies, but you can reset your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. Some REIS website features and services may not function properly if your cookies are disabled.
- Log information - When you use REIS websites, our servers automatically record information that your browser sends whenever you visit a website. These server logs may include information such as your web request, Internet Protocol address, browser type, browser language, the date and time of your request and one or more cookies that may uniquely identify your browser.
How We Use Collected Information
We process information we collect about you in accordance with this Policy. REIS only shares personal information with other companies or individuals outside of REIS in the following limited circumstances:
- We have your consent.
- You are provided with access to our website and services pursuant to a contract between us and a third party. Your personal information, other than credit card information, may be shared with such third party for reporting or enforcement purposes.
- You have or create an account with a third party who is providing a service that requires passing information to access your third party account or tie it to your REIS user account (e.g. moving from one password-protected account to another without having to login twice, auto-populating forms from a property listing or tax roll data). Your personal information may be shared with such third party for authentication, reporting and enforcement purposes.
- We provide such information to our affiliated companies or other trusted businesses or persons for the purpose of processing personal information on our behalf. We require that these parties agree to process such information based on our instructions and in compliance with this Policy and any other appropriate confidentiality and security measures.
- We have a good faith belief that access, use, preservation or disclosure of such information is reasonably necessary to (a) satisfy any applicable law, regulation, legal process or enforceable governmental request, (b) enforce applicable Terms of Service, including investigation of potential violations thereof, (c) detect, prevent or otherwise address fraud, security or technical issues, (d) address emergencies or acts of God, (e) address disputes, claims or persons holding a beneficial interest, or (f) protect against imminent harm to the rights, property or safety of REIS, its users or the public as required or permitted by law.
We may also gather aggregated data about website visitors and disclose the results of such aggregated (but not personally identifiable) information to our partners, service providers, advertisers and/or other third parties for marketing or promotional purposes.
From time to time we may partner or enter into arrangements with another party to provide specific benefits and/or services to our website users. We will provide such partners with the information that we believe is reasonably necessary for them to provide these benefits or services to you. We will provide you with a means to opt out of receiving such marketing communications from our partners or us you; you may express your preference to not be so contacted by sending a letter, calling or emailing REIS at the contact information below informing us of your preference.
In connection with REIS-hosted training, conferences or other events, REIS provides an attendee list to the sponsors and exhibitors for their respective use in one pre- and one post-conference mailing. If you do not wish to receive the information from such sponsors and exhibitors, you may express your preference to not be so contacted by either checking the appropriate box on the registration form at the time of registration or by sending a letter, calling or emailing REIS at the contact information below informing us of your preference.
If REIS becomes involved in a merger, acquisition or any form of sale of some or all of its assets, we will provide notice before personal information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
REIS stores and processes personal information on its servers located in the United States of America. If a service provider is located outside the USA, we may pass personal information as described above to a server located in the provider’s country in order to provide services to you.
Except as described in this Policy, we do not sell, rent or otherwise share or disclose your private, personally identifiable information to third parties.
Our Security Measures to Protect Information
To help protect the privacy of data and personally identifiable information you transmit through use of REIS websites, we maintain physical, technical and administrative safeguards. We also update and test our security technology on an ongoing basis.
Accessing and Updating Personal Information
When you use a REIS website, we make good faith efforts to provide you with access to your personal information and either to correct this data if it is inaccurate or to delete such data at your request if it is not otherwise required to be retained by law or for legitimate business purposes. We ask individual users to identify themselves and the information requested to be accessed, corrected or removed before processing such requests, and we may decline to process requests that are unreasonably repetitive or systematic, require disproportionate technical effort, jeopardize the privacy of others, or would be extremely impractical (for instance, requests concerning information residing on backup tapes), or for which access is not otherwise required. In any case where we provide information access and correction, we perform this service free of charge, except if doing so would require a disproportionate effort. If you want to update personal information that we have received from a third party who has contracted with us to provide you with access to a REIS website or service, your only recourse to update such personal information may be through that third party.
Enforcement
Please feel free to direct any questions or concerns regarding this Policy or REIS’ treatment of personal information by contacting us through this web site or writing to us at the address specified below. When we receive formal written complaints at this address, it is our policy to contact the complaining user regarding his or her concerns. We will cooperate with the appropriate regulatory authorities, including local data protection authorities, to resolve any complaints regarding the transfer of personal data that cannot be resolved between REIS and an individual.
Changes to Our Privacy Policy
We reserve the right to amend this Privacy Policy at any time, for any reason, without notice to you other than the posting of the amended Privacy Policy on the REIS websites. Changes will be effective when posted. The provisions contained in this Privacy Policy supersede all previous notices or policies regarding our privacy practices and the terms and conditions that govern the use of REIS websites.
